vivo has been anything but fast to release Android 9 Pie updates for its devices. The company has unveiled its new Funtouch 9 skin last month based on that OS release, and last week we got a timeline saying it would roll out to a total of 13 smartphones by July, in beta form. So clearly vivo is in no rush here.
On the flip side, the NEX A has just started receiving a Funtouch 9 build based on Android 9 Pie today in China. It's unclear whether this is a beta release, but we're willing to assume it is, because there has so far been no official mention of finalized non-beta software based on Pie for vivo devices.
The update comes as a 3.3GB download, and it adds everything that Google baked into Pie as well as all of vivo's modifications for Funtouch 9, including a revamped dark mode and multiple feature enhancements for the Jovi AI assistant.
There's still no telling when Funtouch 9 and Android 9 Pie with it will be headed to vivo handsets that have been sold outside of China.
